Psychology sessions

A trusting relationship between a psychologist and their client is essential for successful therapy. That’s why Miriam spends time getting to know and understand her clients and their goals for therapy.

Miriam offers confidential, individually tailored psychology sessions. Miriam can offer sessions via Zoom or in person at the Cambridge Specialist Centre on a Wednesday.

Miriam can work with adult clients, on problems including:

  • worry or anxiety

  • low mood or depression

  • stress and burnout

  • sleep problems

  • health problems or behaviour change

  • grief or big life changes

Miriam takes a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach when working with clients. She teaches her clients how to influence their thoughts and behaviours to improve quality of life.

The number of sessions a client has will vary. Often a lot can be achieved in as little as three sessions, other people may benefit from up to 12 sessions. Miriam works with her clients to make a plan that suits their individual circumstances.

Cardiac health psychology

Miriam has a special interest in cardiology, having spent eight years working in the cardiology service at Middlemore Hospital. Depression and anxiety can be common after a cardiac event, or when people have ongoing heart symptoms. Miriam offers health psychology sessions specifically for people and their whānau who want support with adjusting to changes after a cardiac event.

Speaking

Miriam loves sharing psychology knowledge, tips and tricks to improve workplace wellbeing. She is an accomplished speaker and provides upbeat, entertaining and meaningful presentations. These can be tailored to meet workplace needs.

Examples of presentations Miriam has delivered to workplaces include:

  • Ugh not another wellbeing talk (don’t worry, this isn’t a talk about mindfulness or being more resilient!)

  • We’re going on an anxiety hunt (understand anxiety and what to do about it)

  • Where’s your charger? (Learn where and how you get your mental energy)

  • There’s a hole in my bucket (what to do when you’re feeling depleted)

Testimonials

“Miriam took a workplace wellbeing session for our team at Sanders Pharmacy after a pretty full on year dealing with the Pandemic, and gave us an increased understanding of our own stressors, responses, and tools to improve our wellbeing. She lead the team through a very engaging presentation with really positive feedback from the staff, and was super easy to work with. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to invest in their staff’s wellbeing. Thanks, Miriam - we look forward to having another session with you again!”

November 2021, Gemma Perry, Owner & Pharmacist Sanders Pharmacy

“Miriam provided a workshop for our team based on the basics of self care when suffering from depleted energy in a draining environment. Two years into the pandemic, it was a much needed boost to our team. We really appreciated the explanations and tips & tricks, which were new to some staff, and a valuable reminder and refresher to others. Miriam was a pleasure to work with and very accommodating, not to mention flexible with practical arrangements for the workshop. We’re looking forward to more of Miriam’s workshops in 2022!"
